Bankhill Ladies Toilet
2014
In 2014, The Preservation Trust acquired this property from Berwick Town Council. It had not been used as a toilet facility for several years. The inside had been stripped of the conveniences and was being used as a general store for the roads and parks departments. The Trust tried to maintain as much as possible of the original structure and the Victorian Minton tiled floor. It was converted to an quirky café and ice cream parlour and was used successfully as a welcome stopping point for locals and visitors who may be walking round the Town Walls! As the café owner exhibited some local artwork inside, it became known as The Loovre! In 2019, there was a change of ownership and there are some exciting plans for the building to open once again as holiday accommodation.
The project received an award from the Civic Trust in 2015.
