The Turner Trail Norham

2019

The painter JMW Turner (1775 – 1851) who is often referred to as the ‘painter of light’, visited Norham on several occasion and attributed his fame to his early paintings of Norham Castle. He appeared to be obsessed with the castle, sketching and painting it repeatedly. Turner is considered to be the greatest English Romantic landscape painter.
The Norham Arts Group approached the Preservation Trust about funding for installing a short trail around the village to celebrate his visits. Having already set up the Lowry Trail around Berwick, the Trust were happy to help. More information and an accompanying map are available at their website -
